12 Matcha, 5 ⭐️
I had heard of the long lines here so came about 20 minutes before opening to a short line. They use 6g of matcha (quite a lot) and the whole experience is quite special. I got an unsweetened drink but given how much matcha there is in the drink, it was slightly bitter and vegetal. Would recommend for the experience but not an everyday drink.
Cha Cha Matcha, 5 ⭐️
The electric bamboo whisk and huge bowl of matcha made me a bit wary but the taste of both matcha lattes was really good! They do use ceremonial grade which you can also purchase from their website.
Nana’s Green Tea, 5 ⭐️
This is more of a dessert cafe but their plain matcha latte was amazing - the matcha they use has much sweeter notes, so this was a treat to sip on while walking around on a hot day.
Isshiki Matcha, 5 ⭐️
I didn’t think I could taste different matcha notes, but the matcha at this cafe was much more bitter - not in an unbearable way but just something to note! I still enjoyed the drink and could tell it was a high quality matcha.
Brioche NYC, 5 ⭐️
Another newish spot in midtown Manhattan so no lines and a beautiful interior with lots of seating. No negatives on the iced oat matcha.
Stumptown Coffee, 2 ⭐️
I love Stumptown Coffee so I unfortunately had high hopes for the matcha. They do use ceremonial grade but not a substantial quantity - the drink tasted like oat milk with no matcha notes present. Save your money and get a coffee instead if you visit.
King’s Coffee, 5 ⭐️
The colour of this matcha is a bit light, but don’t let that detract you! This is a solid option if you’re in the Flatiron area.
Matchaful, 5 ⭐️
Matchaful has so many locations spread throughout NYC and are known for their high quality of matcha - definitely recommend!
Mika’s Direction, 5 ⭐️
An underrated cafe which means no lines (for now!) and great quality - can’t go wrong with an oat iced matcha. The servers were super friendly and kind as well.
Mori Coffee, 5 ⭐️
Mori uses premium Uji ceremonial grade matcha and this latte was delicious! Quick service and opens early enough to grab a drink before work starts.
Copper Mug Coffee, 4 ⭐️
I think this latte could have been better if there was a smaller size - the taste of the matcha wasn’t as strong as other places and I think that was due to the quantity of milk.
HeyTea, 1 ⭐️
Not my first choice for matcha but as part of a team outing, I decided to try the Matcha Cloud. Not only did they have no vegan milk options, but the drink was extremely light on the matcha flavour - 10/10 do not recommend.
